Program Assistant, Civil Rights Unit
Shakuntala serves as a Program Assistant at SAN. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Dental surgery ( equivalent to Bachelor of Science). After retiring as a dentist, she pursued studies in psychotherapy and obtained PG Diploma in Psychotherapy from Global Institute 0f Medical Sciences India- in collaboration with Malaysian University. Her career at SAN started as a volunteer through NAPCA (National Asian Pacific Center on Aging) which allowed her the opportunity to start working and get trained for employment in the US. During the first four years as a volunteer, Shakuntala assisted in various programs at SAN including citizenship applications and helping clients with resources for other immigration issues. At the end of her tenure with NAPCA she was absorbed by SAN as a staff member.
Shakun now does the majority of the Citizenship work at South Asian Network and is also a Certified Covered California Enroller. In addition, she serves as the primary leader for the Older Adult program within SAN.
Due to her extensive knowledge and fluency in the Hindi language, she also provides translation services of documents and flyers from English to Hindi.
