
Mental Health Unit Intern
Mahika Nayak serves as the Mental Health Unit Intern at SAN, where she works on patient intakes, case management, organizing support groups/workshops, and community education. She is a fourth year Neuroscience major at UCLA, double minoring in Global Health and South Asian Studies, intending to pursue an MD/MPH. Mahika is passionate about mental health and providing culturally-relevant care and resources, especially as it pertains to deconstructing stigma within the South Asian population. She is the founder/president of both MannMukti at UCLA and Saathi, an organization and a peer counseling program for South Asian students on campus to address their mental/emotional needs. She has experience in different South Asian mental health/DV spaces and working with individuals from various backgrounds and identities from the community. With a strong interest in public health and examining the societal determinants of health, Mahika hopes to explore health equity and social justice as she dedicates herself to a career of service and advocacy for marginalized communities.
