Summer Associate – Programs

South Asian Network (SAN) Summer Associates work part-time (20 hours per week. Strong candidates should be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program.


Associates will be responsible for providing programmatic and administrative support in one or more of the following areas – healthcare access, gender-based violence, civil rights and civic engagement, and/or economic justice. This will include:

  • Conducting client intakes;
  • Conducting research on relevant topics;
  • Managing impact data;
  • Monitoring and tracking programmatic activities;
  • Organizing and helping facilitate events and projects.


  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Solid organizational abilities and detail-oriented;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Proficiency in a South Asian language strongly preferred;
  • Experience and/or interest in one or more of our programmatic areas (health, gender-based violence, civil rights, economic justice); and
  • Strong commitment to the betterment the South Asian American community.


  • Experience working at a unique social justice organization serving the South Asian community;

Strategic Communications and Web Development Summer Associate

SAN Communications and Web Development Program Associates work part-time (20 hours per week). Strong candidates should be currently completing an M.A. or B.A. in Communications, Marketing, Web Development, Multimedia, IT or a related field.
The primary responsibility of the Strategic Communications and Web Development Summer Associate is to assist in the development and implementation of external communications, institutional media campaigns, and web site maintenance and enhancements. These responsibilities will entail attentive and effective communication through the SAN website and a variety of social media platforms, social bookmarks, and forums. The Strategic Communications and Web Development Summer Associate will also guide the process of the designing of a new website for SAN.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help facilitate and implement SAN online marketing and outreach strategies, including social media and web platforms;
  • Build community interest and momentum through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other social media channels by posting updates, engaging conversations and discussions, and increasing the number of followers;
  • Assist the team with drafting and proofreading external email campaigns, event and marketing materials, and other outreach efforts;
  • Research the social media landscape and build compelling outreach programs to actively engage targeted communities and develop critical marketing strategies;
  • Monitor, track, and share analytics and insights into community audiences and online conversations with team;
  • Explore new web and social media tools and implement best practices;
  • Monitor the SAN listserv and keep the list active and up to date.


  • Functional knowledge of WordPress or similar platforms;
  • Experience with email marketing tools;
  • Innovative ideas and experience working and building campaigns with social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram;
  • Reliable communication and collaboration skills;
  • Ability to edit, produce, and design content a plus;
  • Experience with web hosts, databases, and server-side IT experience preferred;
  • Proficiency using Photoshop, Publisher, Premiere, etc a plus;
  • Interest in SAN’s programmatic areas preferred;
  • Must be fluent in English or a native speaker.

These positions are unpaid. However, Associates will be compensated for mileage at the current organizational reimbursement rate.
