SOUTH ASIAN NETWORK EXPRESSES OUR CONDOLENCES TO VICTIMS OF THE SAN BERNARDINO SHOOTING AND ENCOURAGES COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO REPORT ACTS OF HATE

The South Asian Network expresses our extreme sadness about the shooting that took place at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino yesterday. We would like to extend our condolences to the victims and their families. SAN condemns the rampage and the pain and suffering it has brought to countless lives in Southern California.

We urge that members of the media avoid profiling and stereotyping individuals based upon their race, religion, immigrant status and national origin as information about the case begins to unfold.

As a community-based organization serving the needs of the South Asian Americans in Southern California, we are deeply concerned about the possible backlash against members of our community. We have already begun to see incidents of harassment, bullying and hate speech against South Asians and Muslims in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

If individuals have experienced incidents of hate speech, hate crime, bullying or discrimination, please contact us at 562-403-0488.
