Today, April 24, 2014, the White House and U.S. Department of Health & Human Services is honoring 11 advocates and community leaders as “Champions of Change” for their work to educate Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders about the Affordable Care Act.

Manjusha P. Kulkarni, SAN’s Executive Director, is one of the advocates being acknowledged for her and her staff’s commitment to ensuring that South Asian Americans fully benefit from health reform.

“It is an honor to receive this award as recognition of the tremendous efforts of the staff of the South Asian Network. Our work in providing education and outreach on the Affordable Care Act as well as enrollment assistance in Covered California has helped to ensure access to quality health care services for countless South Asian Americans in Southern California.”

Since July 2013, SAN has provided information and referrals to more than 6,500 South Asian Americans, as well as one-on-one application assistance to over 100 community members wishing to enroll in Covered California or Medi-Cal.

This event will be live streamed today at 10:30 am PST on the White House website, www.whitehouse.gov/live

The Champions of Change program was created as an opportunity for the White House to feature individuals doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities.
